Latvian literature, 6th grade
Goal: Learn about imaginative means of expression and portrayal of emotions in poetry.
To reach the goal, pupils visualised a poem called “Raudoša debess (Weeping sky)” by a Latvian poet Aspazija.
To better understand usage of imaginative means of expression and portrayal of emotions in poetry, pupils of 6th grade visualised a poem by poet Aspazija “Weeping sky”.
- Pupils read the poem, discussed the expression of emotions in it and each of them made a drawing portraying a “Weeping sky”.
- Pupils compared their drawings to an artist Ilona Ceipe’s portrayal of a sky. (Artist Ilona Ceipe has illustrated Aspazija’s book of poems)
- Task at home: pupils have to take a photo of a “weeping sky”.
- All the photographs are compared and the most expressive portrayals of emotions are discussed.
Conclusion: Through the use of pictures and photographs, pupils became more aware of the use of imaginative means of expression and emotions in poetry and other works of art.
